Janelle Reyes (she/her) is a photographer and writer. She was born and raised in the Bay Area and later moved to Los Angeles in 2014 for college and work.
In Los Angeles, she found her passion in arts and culture, motivating her to pursue a career in arts administration. Through her time spent in art institutions and organizations, she learned about the artist's role in community engagement and public space and felt inspired to build a multidisciplinary practice involving documentation, image-making, and story-telling.
Mostly self-taught, Janelle is inspired by the human experience, drawing from her relationships with people, animals, the land, etc. Play is an integral part of her process and exploration as an artist, with her subject matter involving close friends and the outdoors. As a proud California native, she is deeply informed by the natural and built environment and the social and cultural connections that take root from simply being where we are.
Janelle currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, capturing and writing away.
